NokiaThe first of Google's OS's designed for the tablet market - v3.0 (Honeycomb) was released today. We'd like to say "finally" as it's been a long time coming, but that would make us sound like nagging farts that don't have anything constructive to say. So, for intro purposes, we're gonna say - It looks promising, let's look into it!

There are a lot of enhancements in the new Android but the first one that needs some description is related to Hardware. Launch platform has been selected to be - NVIDIA Tegra 2. This has a lot to do with the fact that Android guys wanted to go really "intensively" with the UI and push things a bit farther, which you will clearly notice once you start using any Android 3.0-based tablet. What Android crew managed to do with NVIDIA is - use NVIDIA's unbeatable experience in terms of 2D and 3D graphics to deliver an UI that's hardware-accelerated (engine is called Renderscript) and that shouldn't have any glitches or slowdowns.

We had a chance to play around with Tegra-based devices in the past years and... our impressions were always pretty positive. Yeah, it took awhile to get them to work properly and to be ready to come to the market, but right now in terms of overall user experience and room for the future - Android-based tablets look like a very, very serious thing. Apart from the general acceleration and being more focused on tablets, this should be an excellent platform for mobile gaming, as I'm sure we'll see in the future.

You can drag stuff from one area to the other, you can long-press and Finally you can flip through widgets, scroll through them so interactivity is looking really good. You can just feel how much work has been done behind the scenes to make this release ready for market so it can try and fight with Apple's devices. Primarily - iPad, that's gone a long way since its release, both in terms of functionality and user-base. You can also enjoy
using some heavily tablet-enhanced stuff like Tablet-optimized Gmail with screen split into fragments, which makes the user interface look smooth and very well organized. If you want to use GPS, you can use Google maps in 3D-way, which makes your view on your surrounding area much more realistic. Youtube app is also heavily redesigned and offers virtual semi-3D interface that makes scrolling through your videos a lot easier and better organized.

Same thing goes to Google Talk which you can now use easily with built-in camera on your talbet, and enjoy chatting with your friends in a more teleconference kind of way.

What I feel needs some work in the Android community is - stricter control of the applications in the Android Market so you don't end up buying an app that doesn't work - which happened to me more then once.
